I stopped by the Brown Station Road Recycling Center Pond this morning before work and found a variety of shorebirds and waders. Shorebirds foraging along the mudflats ringing the pond included 25 Least Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 3 Solitary Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, and 7 Killdeer. Waders included 2 Great Blue Herons and 7 Green Herons when I arrived and then 5 Great Egrets and 1 immature Little Blue Heron flew in and landed later as I watched. On another note, 2 Black-crowned Night Herons were present at Schoolhouse Pond on Wednesday, in the same location as previously reported.
