After dipping on the Beavue Ponds White Ibises at 9 am, we went on to try for
the one reported from Pt Tobacco. At the Rose Hill pond, we were informed by a
friendly birder that one had just waded out of sight, so after patient waiting
we finally did see both immatures. We decided then to try to embellish our luck
with the Litle Blue Heron, so stopped at the Pt Tobacco Marina (off Shirley Rd
at Ann Harbor (s'most intersection)).

Here indeed were waders, but these were no L Blue Herons. The long bills at first
suggested dowitchers , until I realized they were 2 Marbled Godwits (!),
accompanied by a Willet for size comparison. Even the Willet is a good bird for
Charles County; the Godwits may be a record.

The 3 birds were viewed from the small pull-off just as the entrance road turns
right; other vanatage points are hampered by tall grass. We had them under
observation until noon, just as their little mudflat was disappearing with a
rising tide. They seemed tolerant of passing boats, at least. I got off some
documentation-quality-only photos thru grass and heat shimmer, against the sun.
I'll post these momentarily.

Unfortunately it's a > 1 hr drive back to our house, while the few birders'
phone #''s we had with us did not answer our calls. Our next purchase, after
paying for our dentist's kitchen remodelling, wil have to be an i-phone.
