Hi Folks,

Ed Carlson and I did a couple of surveys at the Swan Creek Wetlands & Cox
Creek Dredged Material Facility (AA County) this weekend. Though the place
is closed to the public after hours and on weekends, there have been great
birds showing up any day of the week. The BAIRDS SANDPIPER found by Bill
Hubick on Friday was not seen either Saturday evening or Sunday morning;
however, a large peep was seen on Sunday, though the glimpse was brief
before the bird flew off without being relocated. Also of interest was a
MARBLED GODWIT that showed up Saturday evening, but it was no longer present
on Sunday morning. This will be a first county record in ebird, though the
bird may have been seen locally many years ago. There are also a few
lingering WESTERN SANDPIPERs, among the hundreds of peeps found in both
dredge cells, and four SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERs were in the north cell both
Saturday and Sunday.

Swan Creek is at the end of Kembo Road, off of Fort Smallwood Rd., near the
Key Bridge. Hours are 7:30 to 3:30, but sometimes the gates open before
7:30, and you can drive in if the gates are opened. Be sure to sign in at
the office, and fill out a waiver if it is your first visit. The folks
there are very friendly, and welcome birders. If you have questions you can
call them directly at 410-439-4990, or send me an email.
