Jane and I were at Plum Point with her sister's family today. The weather was amazing and the air clear for a change. Only a few jellyfish finally showed up for the summer so swimming was pretty much unimpeded. On the jetty to the Breezy Point marina there were dozens of various aged Great Black-backed Gulls with a few Laughing, Ring-billed and Herring Gulls mixed in. Forster's and Common Terns were following the fishing boats that seemed to be all over the place. One Royal Tern flew by with its raucous call announcing it before I saw it.

There were two interesting adult terns flying north that I'm not entirely comfortable with my views of but they might well have been Gull-billed. Dark cap, dark primaries, white shallowly forked tail and dark bill that appeared short and heavy. Unfortunately, the birds were a bit too far off shore and I only had binoculars. A scope sure would have made the difference. Anyway, if you're in the area near North/Chesapeake Beach or a bit further south, keep an eye out though these birds might have just been passing through.
