Hello Gail and Barry,

Thanks for the note. I will be entering yesterday's Poplar list into eBird shortly and will forward the list to MDOsprey.

Shorebird numbers were still fairly low, but we had some day-makers:

Hudsonian Godwit--presumably the same bird found by Jeff Culler last Friday, but yesterday it was in the wetland behind the building that we use for the restroom stop; great views, as it wandered among a bunch of Mallards, but it did eventually fly to an area out of sight (photos)

Yellow-crowned Night-Heron--a juvenile that flew into the bushes with all the Snowy Egrets and Cattle Egrets; perched in plain view for a few minutes, allowing good photos. An ad Black-crowned Night-Heron was here as well. This spot is worth a little time, as neither night-heron was evident during the first few scans and counts.

Virginia Rail--in the marsh near the Yellow-crowned Night-Heron location; a big crowd pleaser owing to the close views (after a little iPod use)

Nice flock of American Avocets continues. No Black Terns. Water levels are high after the recent rains.

On the way back toward Easton, some of us stopped at the Claiborne boat ramp, where we had a Brown Pelican with many gulls and terns, including Royal.

Thanks to Carol Broderick for organizing a great trip!

Hope that helps. Good luck tomorrow!

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Poplar Is. info from yesterday's trip?

Hi--

As I recall there was a birding trip out to Poplar Island yesterday (August
15) -- were there any interesting highlights? I ask because we have a trip
there tomorrow and it would be useful to know what was seen (and
where).

Thanks,
Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper
