Hi Everyone,

Hins Point was very interesting this morning (6:30 am - 11:30 am).  Paul Pisano, Frank Hawkins and I birded the point during moderate rain and wind that slowly gave way to blue skies.

The terns and swallows hung around the point, while shorebirds generally flew in straight lines across the Potomac from east to west.

Highlight birds:

8 Common Terns
3 Royal Terns
1 Artic Tern (Frank has a photo)
1+ Black Tern
20+ Foster's Tern
1 Least Tern
1 Long-billed Dowitcher (ID by Paul by call)
Lesser Yellowlegs
Least Sandpiper
Semipalmated Plover
Pectoral Sandpipper(?)
Bald Eagle
Osprey
DC Cormorants
3 Wood Ducks
30+ Bank Swallows
4+ Cliff Swallows
1 Tree Swallow
6 Barn Swallows
1250 laughing Gulls (on 2 storm roosts on Golf Course).

Hope everyone was safe and had a chance to get their full of Hurricane Irene birds!

Jason Berry
