Comments: Post Hurricane Irene: I was at the Oxbow for about 4 hours, part
of the time Ira Simon was there and part of the time Jay Sheppard was there. I
had the Least Terns, Forester's Terns, and Black Tern while Ira was there. I
left to go get Jay so he could come verify it was a Black Tern. Hurricane Irene
started raining on Saturday afternoon and continued through about 7 am this
morning. The Little Patuxent River backflowed into Oxbow Lake last evening (the
gage height reached about 9.5 ft at around 2:00 a.m.). From Big Pool Bluff Jay
and I watched the water flowing back out the outlet channel. We'll just have to wait
to see if the beaver dam holds after the excess water flows over it and back to the river.
