When I arrived at the two tower buildings at Tysons Corner this evening, the
lights were on, and the sky was FULL of nighthawks eagerly feeding on the
copious insects attracted by the lights. I estimate there were at least 30
nighthawks, mostly flying low. I could easily see the white throats and tail
spots on the males with my 8X binocular. It was the best nighthawk show I
have seen since the lights were turned off there 2 or 3 years ago. Just
like old times! With more south winds, warmer temperatures, and more
humidity tomorrow, I think (and hope) there should be a good show tomorrow
night as well. So far I have seen NO other birders there to enjoy the birds
this year. So,come on over and see the show.
