After a 60,000 mi. check-up at the dealer's (shoulda gone birding--many
$$$$!), I stopped by this small area at 1100, as the clouds were parting
(somewhat) and I hoped to get lucky. Aarg...pretty quiet, with only one
brief flurry of bird activity as the sun's rays found earth for a few mom-
ents. Pretty much the usual with the exception of a CANADA WARB-
LER (a 1st yr. imm. or female). After a painstaking inspection of the 1
mile circuit, I tallied 15 spp.:
Downy W'pkr
N Flicker
E. Wood-pewee
Acadian Fly'r
RE Vireo
C C'dee
T Tit
WB Nuthatch
C Wren
Wood Thrush
A Robin--tons
E Starling
CANADA WARBLER
N Cardinal
C Grackle
Lots of 'shrooms starting to appear. One large puffball (Calvatia gigantea)
had seen better days, as well as a spectacular rosette of the Sulphur Shelf
(Laetiporus sulphureus), tho' a later specimen was a photographer's
delight.
