Like Diane, I viewed yesterday's reports of impressive numbers of Black Terns at Violette's as a sign that it was time for me to find my life Black Tern.
I drove straight from the airport (I was in Denver and had a successful White-tailed Ptarmigan chase in Rocky Mtn Natl Park) to Violette's. A little before 2:00 I spotted a single Black Tern. I was able to watch it feeding over the Potomac for almost half an hour. It often flew close to Common Terns, offering good opportunities for comparisons. It was a satisfying addition to my life list.
Thanks to Dave for all his great reports from Violette's.
