This morning (8/27) at Rock Creek Park….

I found the various sites at the Park very quiet but on my way home I met Michael Bender, who reported seeing a nice spurt of warblers at the Ridge. His full report follows:

Hi Wallace,

Not too much more after you left -a few warblers in the maintenance yard parking lot. Here is what I saw this morning:

7:45 am Ridge Nice flock of warblers when I arrived, then nothing:

American Redstart 2 females, 1 male
Canada Warbler 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler 3
Black and White Warbler 1
Carolina Chickadee 3
Tufted Titmouse 1
Eastern Wood Pewee 2
Downy Woodpecker 1
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Mourning Dove 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 1

8:15 am Equitation Field

Chimney Swift 2
Pileated Woodpecker (heard) 1
American Robin 24
Eastern Wood Pewee 2
Chipping Sparrow 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker (heard) 1
American Goldfinch 1

8:30 am Maintenance Parking lot and Maintenance Yard (with Gary and Harry)

American Redstart, 1 female, 1 male
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 2
Blue Jay 1
Carolina Wren 3
Mourning Dove (heard) 1
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Red-bellied Woodpecker 2

Harry and I also had Hawk sp (2) flyover at the ridge while on the way to the maintenance yard. I suspect Coopers Hawk from the appearance but it was a brief look.

Have Fun Birding!
