Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from August 22,2011
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, August
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
Highlights include a Black-crowned Night Heron, over 30 each of
Black-necked Stilts and American Avocets, six species of tern, and the best
bird of all - a Northern Mockingbird (only the second sighting on the
property).
