I've been carefully watching birds for about 10 years now and don't recall ever seeing a bird eat fungus, but I watched a Gray Catbird eat the cap, about 2 inches in diameter, off a delicate, gray mushroom this morning. It must be a preferred food because there is also suet and a zillion berries in the yard for them to eat. Just thought I'd share something I thought was interesting.
Also took a short walk around Wheaton Regional Park in mid-morning and saw >100 chimney swifts skimming/dipping into the pond water for several minutes, then group up, and fly off together. It was otherwise pretty quiet by the time we arrived at 9:45am.
