Got a call about 4:45 this afternoon from Sam Dyke, who found several species of shorebirds on Hampshire Road , behind Sam's Club (no relation). Sam had, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT, WILSON'S PHALAROPE, STILT SANDPIPERS among several Pectoral Sandpipers, Leasts and Yellowlegs. By the time I arrived the phalarope had disappeared, but the others remained in the area. Ron Gutberlet and Ellen Lawler soon arrived and we watched as the various shorebirds worked over a large puddle on the west end of the road. A passing train, got them all up in flight so we got great loks at the godwit's wing patterns and the black tail and white rump.
The full list:
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 3
Solitary Sandpiper 2
Hudsonian Godwit 1
Pectoral Sandpiper 7
Stilt Sandpiper 2
Least Sandpiper 4
