Outstanding flock of warblers at Hughes Hollow this afternoon just past the sign along the dyke. There were 30-40 warblers in one stand of shrubs. Blue-winged, tennessee, nashville, parula, chestnut-sided, magnolia, cape-may, black-throated blue, black-throated green, blackburnian, pine, bay-breasted, blackpoll, and black-and-white all in the same group. The flock also included gnatcatchers, a blue-headed, a white-eyed and a few red-eyed vireos. The most prevalent were the chestnut-sided, blackburnians and magnolias. The flock stayed very tight for nearly half and hour, only flying a short ways along the north bound dyke for a short while. There were several duck hunters shooting shotguns. I wondered if the flock was at all formed by fear of the constant gunfire.
Also saw a few red-headed woodpeckers and a small kettle of broad-winged hawks above a larger kettle of black vultures.
