Hi Everybody: I walked about a mile north on the C & O Canal from Sycamore Landing and back. The woods this morning and the towpath was very quiet while I was there.

I then went to Hughes Hollow from 8 AM to 8:30. I was definitely not expecting the wave of warblers that was reported yesterday. There were several hunters there preparing to train their dogs in the first imoundment (west side). I decided to quickly walk down the crossdike between the 2 impoundments. Approx. 150 feet down the path I had some movement low in the marsh grass. After a minute or so the bird popped up and it was a MARSH WREN. I enjoyed the bird for about 10 minutes and even heard it singing several times. For anybody attempting to find the marsh wren walk down the previously described path until you come to the second wiilow at the edge of the bank on your right (both of the willow saplings are about 10-12 feet tall and only 10-15 feey apart). It was near the base of the second willlow where I first saw the bird.

Other birds seen included Eastern Phoebes (2), House Wren (1), Indigo Buntings (5), and Chestnut-sided Warbler (1).

I heard 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers calling from different directions and both heard then saw 1 Common Raven perched on a distant snag towards the west. I then headed home...yesterday was my full day of birding for the weekend.
