Mark et all,

Severna Park, my old high school, is THE home of the fighting falcons.
Perhaps the swifts were not aware?

That said, when I went to pay a visit to my old school for work
recently, I noticed a red-tailed hawk poster on the wall, an eagle
silhouette on the side of a helmet, and any number of non-falcon logos
strewn about the building. I promise to lobby the county when they
get around to building Severna Park a brand new school to...
1. have a good chimney
2. adopt ornithologically-accurate logos
3. buy all their furniture, supplies and materials of instruction from me. ; )

Incidentally, I was at Swan Creek looking unsuccessfully for my 250th
species in Anne Arundel County this year (*Stan Arnold's AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVERS). The golden ones were not making themselves known, but
there were literally hundreds of Chimney Swifts hawking for insects
above the impoundments. The sight was quite spectacular and more than
made up for the missing plovers. Also, I should mention that one Tree
Swallow and one Barn Swallow were enjoying the insects above the
impoundments as well.

Good Birding,

Dan Haas
