Hi Everyone,

Sunday was another exciting day on the coast! Others have already posted about the TOWNSEND'S and CONNECTICUT WARBLERs (thanks!). Congrats, and thanks again to Dave Czaplak and Mary Ann Todd for finding the Townsend's!

While birding the ORV/OSV zone with Tom Feild, Geraldine King, and Frode Jacobsen, we were treated to an impressive 77 RED KNOTs, overwhelmingly (if not all) juveniles. I knew this was a nice count, but Matt Hafner thought this might be the highest fall count in Maryland for the last couple decades. The highest count in sight simultaneously (and in one photo frame) was 62 birds, with smaller flocks of 3, 3, and 9 noted.

Numbers of birds were very low on the island (or at least seemed so under the tough conditions), but diversity was high during our hours of beating the bushes. Other highlights included WILSON'S WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, and LEAST FLYCATCHER. We checked many of the Wicomico turf farms on the way home and found little of interest except a WHITE-RUMPED at Hampshire Road. The awesome puddle on Jersey Road is already all but vanished.

Here's a flight shot of the Red Knots:

And here are a couple more shots of the Townsend's Warbler:

Good birding!
