MD Osprey:
Many birders will closely inspect each Sandwich Tern encountered in
North America to make sure it's not the South American subspecies,
CayenneTern, especially in case of any future split. Sight records of
Cayenne Terns have been recorded from North Carolina.
Well, now the British BOU Taxonomy Committee has recommended
splitting the Sandwich Tern, that we see here, from the Old World's
Cabot's Tern; one of which <may> have been recorded last year in
Chicago. This split prompted Greg Neise to undertake an excellent
analysis of these two taxa.
Since Cabot's could possibly show up in our region, his analysis is
