I have a question for the herpetologists out there. Within the past week, I
have witnessed hundreds of 1/2 inch toads on the country roads around my
house and in my driveway. The daily walk down the road loses some of its
enjoyment when you need to watch where you tread so you do not squish them.
A car coming down the road leaves behind many squished black dots on the
road. I assume this bountiful hatching is a result of the heavy rains
lately and that the toads are seeking the roadways for the added warmth.
Question: Is September late for this explosion of toads?
Cardinals: last week I had what I assume to be a newly hatched Cardinal
begging for food. I watched Dad feed it several times. This week, it
continues to beg but Mom gets tired of the whining and is now chasing it
away, or at least trying to.

ps: 4 inches of rain so far this morning ...
