Hi All,

Motivated by the recent rash of Connecticut Warbler sightings by Chris Tonra & Tim Guida at Ft. DuPont Park in DC, Wayne Baumgartner and I headed out right after this morning's storms.

We started out with Cuckoo, that lived up to it's frustrating reputation for hiding in plain sight. Eventually we saw enough of the bird to ID it as Yellow-billed Cuckoo by it's rufous primaries and bolder tail patter than the Black-billed Cuckoo.

We played the Connecticut call in some scrubby areas and out of the corner of my eye I saw a plump brownish yellowish warbler pop up in a small maple tree.  The bird had a full, white eye ring, brownish upper-parts, but the front of the bird was blocked.  I called to Wayne as it made one last hop allowing me to see the full brown hood, and yellowish underparts.  Importantly, it did not have any yellow or gray on the throat like an immature Mourning Warbler.  The bird was not nearly as considerate as Chris' bird yesterday and did not stick around for Wayne to see.

We birded the eastern side of the park and came across Tim Guida who was nice enough to show us his mist netting operation to collect data for West Nile Virus research.
