The beaver dam (that maintains the water level in Oxbow Lake) was damaged when all the water from the Little Patuxtent River rushed in and then out again. These shorebirds took advantage of the exposed mud and low water levels:

Comments: Jay Sheppard's report. 10:30-12:0 Noon, cloudy to partly cloudy,
temp 78-82, winds SW 3-8 mph. There is lots of water gove from the lake (beaver
dam damaged due to Irene). Much of the mud near the Egret Tree is already covered
in grasses, etc. only the patch on south side of Gallinule Point has a fair
amount...including at the outlet channel. Found a box turtle at Big Pool
Bluff....very old adult...but no man-made markings showing.
