There was lots of activity at Turkey Point today. Of special note: NINE Red-headed Woodpeckers flew over! Bluejays are gathering in large numbers--I estimated 300 of them today. We will likely have much larger numbers in the next week or two. Not many other species today, aside from Northern Flickers--from what I hear it was much birdier yesterday.
Hawk flight was quite low because of intermittent low clouds, giving excellent views. Denis Quinn, who was there earlier than I, saw a few additional birds that I need to add to the list, so this is not quite the final count:
Osprey 6
Bald Eagle 2
Sharp-shinned Hawk 34
Cooper's Hawk 3
Accipiter sp. 2
Broad-winged Hawk 9
hawk sp. 1
American Kestrel 2
Merlin 7
Peregrine Falcon 2
Pat Valdata
Elkton, MD (where the sun is shining for a change, although it did rain this afternoon)
