Hi All,

Given the cool, damp, somewhat breezy morning on Saturday we had a low
key but fairly successful bird walk for our inaugural bird walk at the
Brampton Inn. After a quiet slow start we got things warmed up with
flocks of robins in the fruiting trees, vines, and shrubs. After we got
into the fallow fields in the property adjacent to the inn we
encountered several Palm Warblers (all Westerns). We also flushed 5
Bobolinks from a wet grassy fallow field. Geese, swifts, jays,
blackbirds, and woodpeckers were streaming in modest numbers north along
the local branch of Langford Creek. One of the woodpeckers resolved into
a surprise immature RED-HEADED, always a pleasure to see. We had a few
raptors aloft during the walk including distant Sharp-shinned and
Cooper's hawks and four well-seen Bald Eagles (2 young birds of
different ages, and 2 adults). On our way back there was a very vocal
young White-eyed Vireo trying to settle on which version of adult song
he will sing next spring. We encountered 36 species for the walk. We
have appended our e-bird checklist below to provide further detail.

Good birding,

Walter Ellison & Nancy Martin

Chestertown, MD
