The subject line about says it all. Quiet morning at Ft. Bayard Park (Friendship Heights DC), but I haven't seen many posts about juncos yet, so thought I'd mention that I had my first of the season DARK-EYED JUNCO (a single calling male passing through up in the trees). Also heard a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET.
I had a very brief tantalizing glimpse of a bird that flew into a treetop and let me see part of its (long) tail only for a split second. It might have been a HY BB Cuckoo, but I can't rule out Sharp-shinned Hawk or something else. It evaporated and couldn't be found again, so it'll have to remain a mystery.
