The Schoolhouse Pond Big Sit occurred today at the rear observation platform with observer(s) present from just before 7 AM until about 6:45 PM. The weather was spectacular; cool in the morning, but warming up in the afternoon. The Marlboro Flaming County Seaters tallied 64 species during the day, including a few flyover raptors, lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers working the trees, many flyover gulls, and few ducks and shorebirds. Highlights included several Bald Eagles, a Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, one Solitary Sandpiper, and a calling Marsh Wren. Other highlights included the many, many Yellow-rumped Warblers working the trees near the observation platform, calling constantly throughout the day. Raptors were relatively hard to come by today, but we did see 5 Bald Eagles, a lone Osprey, and one or two of the other "expected" species. The two Northern Shovelers were my first of the fall at Schoolhouse Pond. The total list is copied below:

Observers: Fred Shaffer, Dave Mozurkewich, Dorothy Pough, Alan Pough, and Carolyn Sturtevant.
