Good Evening All,
The NELSON'S SPARROW, found by earlier Stan Arnold and Ed Carlson,
luckily popped into view after a short bit of pishing for a photo
shoot. I got as many as I could before moving on to enjoying the
calling rails. I initially misidentified two VIRGINIA RAILS for
something larger, but alas, the video (audio) recordings that I
captured helped others help me out with my ID's! The SORA calling was
a much easier bird for me to ID since it popped into view. ; )
Moving on from my large rail mistake, I got really interesting in this
clicking sound coming from about 15 feet into the wetland. I tried to
capture it on audio / video and IF YOU WEAR headphones and turn it up
to 11, you MIGHT be able to hear it. It was a clicking, in series of
three, slower than that of a YELLOW RAIL, but very similar in tone.
Mind you, this is coming from someone who thought a Virginia Rail was
a King/Clapper. Bill Hubick, who kindly answered his phone when I
called, suggested I listen to Eastern Leopard Frog. I did, but it
didn't sound much like what I was hearing. And so I leave it up to
you and your opinions. Video/Audio can be found here:

Nevertheless, I did call Stan Arnold to inform him of my sightings, as
well as this odd clicking sound. He and Ed did visit Swan Creek this
evening and tallied 5 Virginias and 1 Sora, but no clicking anythings.
You want one more?? How about this odd sounding bird?

It has hints of Red-winged Blackbird, but... again, I'll leave it up
to you and your opinions.
Birding is difficult.
Lastly, my last remaining Ruby-throated Hummingbird (I believe) caught
a flight South today. The bird was here feeding at 7:30 AM, but
didn't show for dinner. Bring on the Anna's / Allen's / Rufous /
______!
Good Birding,
