Saw an advanced screening of The Big Year this evening.  It is terrific.  I was expecting slapstick humor and a geeky depiction of birders with few true shots of birds.  I was happy to be wrong.   While not a close rendition, there are plenty of scenes and anecdotes from Mark Obnascik's book.

Maryland and Virginia make appearances, one for birding and one for travel.  The Virginia reference is unfortunately not accurate, that is, unless I missed the news about a great grey owl in '98 or '03.

Anyhow, I think it will definitely be a hit with birders and perhaps with a wider audience.
