I googled "weekend box office" and found this web site: http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

It looks like The Big Year was #9 with a take of $3.325 million. Not too shabby though it'll certainly drop off next weekend unless there's a big surge from word of mouth positive reviews. Not sure how much they spent on the movie but it had to be pretty low tech so maybe they recouped their expenses already?

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Hurry to See The Big Year

Many of you have already enjoyed The Big Year.  Kudos to Greg Miller for surviving the ordeal and for getting so much of his consulting to stick.  And thanks to Jack Black for such a sympathetic portrayal of Greg.  I really liked the movie.  Unfortunately, the reports from all over the map correspond closely to my experience.  Barbara and I were in an almost empty theater populated by maybe 20 people on a Saturday evening.  Michael tells me his group of about 15 was almost alone in the theater in NJ.  I read of one couple who watched the movie with exactly one other couple, who were not birders, incidentally.  My fear is that this movie will be dropped from most theaters very quickly because of the bottom line.  So see it right away or wait for the DVD.
