With my county "ticks" at 2286 and a lovely fall weekend that included a birthday today (NOT a round number thankfully), Lisa and I headed to Somerset County to try and push that number over the magic 2300, or 100 species per Maryland county, threshold.

But first, we spent Friday night in Easton and had the great pleasure of hearing the Dan Haas band play the historic Avalon Theater. They rocked, (dont they always?!) and a lot of fun and dancing was had. We were doubly pleased to run into Jim Brighton in the audience as well.

No huge bird news followed on Saturday, but it was definitely a change of season kind of day, as we birded Rumbley Road and environs. Winter residents like YR Warbler (by the dozens) and White-Throats were flooding in, along with oodles of Palm Warblers. A few late fall migrants were still around, such as BTGW and Grey Catbirds. Eight Great Egrets graced a largely quiet Rumbley Road, along with some lingering Laughing Gulls and Forsters Terns. Three Kestrels sat together on a wire along LQ Powell Road.

A quick stop at Janes Island SP netted Pine Warblers and squeaking Brown-headed Nuthatches.

Thanks to a lame Somerset list, and lots of help from my birding partner, I easily crossed the 2300 mark today. A great birthday prez!!

Good birding
