Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from October 24, 2011
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, October
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
Highlights include high numbers of Northern Shoveler, Northern
Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, American Coot and Pectoral
Sandpiper. Note also the presence of Cooper's Hawk, American Golden Plover,
Greater Yellowlegs, Hudsonian Godwit, Marbled Godwit, White-rumped
Sandpiper, Dowitcher, Belted Kingfisher, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Pipit and
Yellow-rumped Warbler.
Weather: Mostly cloudy am & pm,
