Helen Patton, Gerry Hawkins, Lou Demouy and I spent a delightful
morning at the Lois Y. Green Conservation Park in Gaithersburg, MD,
near the Montgomery County Air Park, on November 3rd.

Highlights of our almost 3-hour visit were 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 5
American Coots, and a female Ring-necked Duck on the pond(s), many
sparrows -- predominantly Song and White-throated with lesser numbers
of Field, Swamp, and Chipping. (No Fox Sparrows yet.) Probably our
best sightings were of 2 quite late House Wrens, both just heard
scolding at first and then seen very well. Also a single Eastern
(Yellow) Palm Warbler.

We paid a short visit to the Green Farm Wetland site in Goshen
(Germantown) after finishing in Lois Green, but did not see the
Northern Shrike that was reported by Jared Fisher and others earlier
this week. By that time in the late morning, it had warmed up quite
a bit, and even the sparrows were pretty inactive.
