Here are a few birds to perhaps either be on the look out for this
weekend, or at least... something to inspire you to bird your favorite
local hotspot here in MD. I know, most are not likely to pop by your
yard, but I think it is important to know what is being seen in and
around our region.
-White-winged Dove in Cape May, NJ
-Harris' Sparrow in Sandy Hook, NJ
-Scissor-tailed Flycatcher on Nantucket, RI
-Ash-throated Flycatchers in Cape May and loads of spots in Mass, NH and Maine.
-Snowy Owl in Southern Maine. *I heard it was a good year for lemmings. ; )
-Rough-legged Hawks making their way South with sightings in PA, NY
and even West Va.
-Rufous and/or selasphorus Hummingbirds in several places, from Ohio to Conn.
-Northern Goshawks reports from VA, NJ, PA and Northern Delaware.
-Short-eared Owls are moving, with sightings recently on HMI and at
the Ashland Hawk Watch in Del.
-Cave Swallows in North Carolina and Cape May, NJ.
And of course, Lark Sparrows, Clay-colored Sparrows and Orange-crowned
Warblers could be enjoying the surroundings of your local patch.
I wish I had more local birds to report, but I've had too much work to
do lately. So I'll leave you with just one: on the way home from
Salisbury this evening, the PEREGRINE FALCON was perched on top of the
West-bound span of the Bay Bridge, as the sun was almost below the
horizon... always a treat.
Good Birding,
