Hi Everyone,

As you know, I have been working on a DC Big Year, and by the end of it, I'm going to need to breakout of the District and do some truly tropical birding!

I asked Norm, and he said it would be okay if I sent this email to gage interest in any folks on MDOsprey would be interested in going down with me as a small group?

I lived in Guatemala for 5 years and founded and ran the Guatemalan Birding Resource Center back 10 years ago.  I was the main guide, and focused on the finding the sought-after highland endemics, along with the more widespread tropical lowland birds.  I'm also co-writing a bird finding guide to Guatemala with a good friend in Guatemala.

What  I'm envisioning is a laid back trip where I show people around my old birding hotspots.  It will last about 10-12 days, hitting a variety of habitats/elevations and make a good run at the Highland endemics. The trip will be moderately physically strenuous in the highlands and cloud forests at ~ 8,000 ft (or more).  If we go for something like the Horned Guan, it would mean a strenuous hike, but others not up for that sort of thing could do more "level" birding back at the lodge.  Lowland birding should be comfortable, with few bugs and only warm days.

Birds:  The main target for many are the highland endemics such as Pink-headed Warbler, Azure-rumped Tanager, Rufus Sabrewing, Blue-and-white Mockingbird, Black-capped Siskin, Blue-throated Motmot, and Horned Guan.  In addition to these tropical endemics, there are a collection of "species-in-waiting" such as Guatemalan Flicker, Brown Creeper,
