Hi all,

On Saturday, Jo Anna and I started on Assateague where the morning flight
was pretty impressive in light of the incredibly windy conditions. We
located an interesting oriole in Bayside Campground that we initially
thought was an extremely dull Baltimore Oriole, but after uploading and
reviewing photos, seemed to have some characteristics of Bullock's Oriole,
a brief discussion can be found with the photos starting at:

Unfortunately the bird was seen at a fair distance for a very short period,
and after it dropped into the thicket, we could not relocate it, I imagine
the strong wind did not help at all!! We continued working the campground
and located a RED KNOT on the mudflats behind the campsites. From there we
headed off the island where we checked Rum Pointe and located the
continuing COMMON GALLINULEs. A quick stop at Castaway's yielded 6 MARBLED
GODWITs and 5 WESTERN WILLETs among the many others. We made a few more
mostly uneventful stops, with our final destination for the day being
Hurlock WWTP where we located three juvenile WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERs along
the dike. The wind certainly made for some interesting birding on
Saturday. On Sunday I birded Point Lookout State Park where there were
impressive numbers of birds moving on the bay including high tallies of
BROWN PELICANs (107), and FORSTER'S TERNs (192), I also located a single
NORTHEN PINTAIL in the ponds at the point immediately followed by a south
bound BRANT over the bay. Landbird diversity was decent as well. Jo Anna
and I birded Flag Ponds in the afternoon where a couple highlights were 9
BROWN PELICANs flying around offshore, and a lingering SNOWY EGRET in one
of the ponds.
