Society. This report was completed Tuesday, November 8, at 10:30 AM. 

Top bird this week is CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD* in MD.

Other birds of interest include waterfowl, NORTHERN BOBWHITE, GREAT
CORMORANT, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, GOLDEN EAGLE, COMMON GALLINULE,
shorebirds, BLACK-HEADED GULL, SHORT-EARED OWL, Selasphorus sp.
hummingbird, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, SNOW BUNTING, warblers, sparrows,
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD*, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, PURPLE FINCHES, and PINE SISKINS.

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD* has been visiting a garden near Easton, Talbot Co,
MD since Oct 23. As of Nov 7 it is still being seen but seems to favor
feeding in the afternoon. The garden is in a private community where parking
is limited and all viewing is from inside a townhouse.
Access can still be attained, but is by appointment only. To arrange a time
for a visit, phone the home owner at 410-822-1966; she will provide
directions to her home and instructions about parking. Please be courteous
and respectful. 

Waterfowl numbers continued to increase throughout the area. Flyover TUNDRA
SWANS were seen in several locations over the weekend. A REDHEAD was seen
Nov 2 in the north cell of the Swan Creek dredge containment facility,
northern Anne Arundel Co, MD; two were there on Nov 5. Another REDHEAD was
found Nov 5 on one of the ponds at L. M.
Stevens Park, Montgomery Co, MD. Six HARLEQUIN DUCKS, one drake and 5
females, were seen Nov 6 in the Ocean City Inlet, Worcester Co, MD.
SURF SCOTERS* were seen Nov 4 on Bowmans Pond, Belvoir Rd (Rte 709),
Fauquier Co, VA. Two BLACK SCOTERS were among the many waterfowl seen Nov 4
on the Shenandoah River downstream from the Rte 9 bridge in Jefferson Co,
WV.

Two NORTHERN BOBWHITES were the highlight of a Nov 5 field trip to Waterford
Farm, Howard Co, MD.
 
A GREAT CORMORANT was found Nov 5 at Black Walnut Point, Talbot Co, MD.

On Nov 6 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and NORTHERN GANNETS were reported in
Calvert Co, MD waters on the Bay east of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power
Plant.

GOLDEN EAGLES were seen from several of the local hawkwatches during the
week with one on Nov 1 and three on Nov 4 at the Snicker's Gap Hawk Watch,
on the Clarke/Loudoun Co, VA, line. GOLDEN EAGLES were seen Nov 2 and 5 from
the Kiptopeke State Park Hawkwatch, Northampton Co, VA. Another GOLDEN EAGLE
was reported Nov 2 from the Cromwell Valley Park Hawkwatch, Baltimore Co,
MD. On Nov 5 two GOLDEN EAGLES were seen at the Rockfish Gap Hawkwatch,
Afton//Waynesboro, Augusta Co, VA and one was seen from the Harvey's Knob
Hawkwatch, near Roanoke, VA the same day. And on Nov 6 a GOLDEN EAGLE was
seen from Town Hill Overlook, Allegany Co, MD.

The two continuing COMMON GALLINULES were seen again on Nov 6 at Rum Pointe
Golf Course, Worcester, MD.

The SANDHILL CRANE reported at Occoquan Bay NWR, Prince William Co, VA on
November 1 was not relocated later in the week.

Seven MARBLED GODWITS were seen Nov 6 at the Castaways Campground, Worcester
Co, MD. Three juvenile WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were found Nov 6 at the
Hurlock WWTP, Dorchester Co, MD. WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were among the
shorebirds found at Hart-Miller Island, Baltimore Co, MD on Nov 7.

A BLACK-HEADED GULL was found Nov 6 at Paper Mill Flats, Baltimore Co, MD.

Two SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen Nov 1 from the observation tower at the
Woodland Beach Wildlife Area, Kent Co, DE.

A Selasphorus sp. hummingbird was reported visiting a feeder in Elkton,
Cecil Co, MD on Nov 1 but has not been seen since the morning of Nov 3.

The LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE that was found on Nov 5 along Bennett's Pier Rd,
Milford, Sussex Co, DE, continues to be seen with the most recent sighting
the morning of Nov 8.

A SNOW BUNTING was seen Nov 5 at Sandy Point SP, Anne Arundel Co, MD.
A pair of SNOW BUNTINGS was seen Nov 7 in a non-public area of the Back Bay
NWR, Virginia Beach, VA. Over 20 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen Nov
7 on the trip to Hart-Miller Island, Baltimore Co, MD.

Warblers continued to be found around the area with reports of TENNESSEE,
NASHVILLE, NORTHERN PARULAS, BLACKPOLLS, BLACK-THROATED BLUES, and more. An
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found Nov 5 at Kenilworth Park, NE DC. Another
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found Nov 6 at Bells Mill Park, Chesapeake, VA.

A wide variety of sparrows continued to be reported from a number of
locations. Two AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and a VESPER SPARROW were seen Nov 1
at Irvine Nature Center, Owings Mills, Baltimore Co, MD. A VESPER SPARROW
was found Nov 5 in a sparrow flock off the parking lot for the St. Michael's
Nature Trail, accessed off Rte 33 on the east side of St. Michael's, Talbot
Co, MD. A LARK SPARROW popped up Nov 2 in a backyard in Norfolk, VA. The
highlight of a Nov 2 visit to Swan Harbor, Harford Co, MD, was a NELSON'S
SPARROW; it was seen again on Nov 3. FOX SPARROWS were reported from several
locations. A LINCOLN'S SPARROW was seen Nov 2 at the Wetlands, James River
Park, Richmond, VA. Another was seen Nov 4 along the Gwynns Fall Trail,
Baltimore, MD, and still another on the Nov 5 Waterford Farm, Howard Co, MD
field trip. 

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD* was picked out of a large mixed
blackbird/starling flock at the intersection of Naylor's Beach Rd, Rte
634 and Strangeway Rd, Rte 636, Richmond Co, VA, on Nov 6.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from a number of different locations during
the week including flyovers at more than one hawkwatch.

PURPLE FINCHES were reported from locations as diverse as the Eastern Shore
of VA NWR, Northampton Co, VA, and at a feeder in Taylorstown, Loudoun Co,
VA on Nov 5.

First-of-Season PINE SISKINS popped up at a few locations in Delaware last
week.

West Virginia Birding List, and DE-Birds list servers.
