I note that this is an incredible bargain.  My university, UMBC, pays 
over $1400 per year for an institutional subscription.

I use BNA frequently and find it authoritative and informative. 
However, the focus is not on topics that arise frequently in MD Osprey, 
like variation in details of field marks or really specific info for a 
local area (like our Yellow Book provides).  Take a look at sample 
species descriptions to see if you think BNA will be useful to you 
before subscribing.  But the price is right for an individual!
