I birded Pt. Lookout for several hours this morning. I didn't have anything too spectacular, but some good birds nonetheless. There were plenty of Bufflehead everywhere, with a few Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Common Goldeneye, and a lone female Lesser Scaup mixed in. At the end of the fishing pier there was a raft of scoters, all of which were Black Scoter. I also had a few gannets fly by, including one that was in fairly close, allowing for some good observation. There were also two Sanderling near the bathrooms at the Point. Fox Sparrows were everywhere in the wooded area near the campground. I counted 10 birds foraging in the brush. My best bird of the day was a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker that I saw on Pt. Lookout Rd. just outside the park entrance as I was leaving.
