Norm,

Over the past few weeks I have received messages from probably a halfdozen people that have had their emails hijacked. Most of the individuals were subscribed through AOL and have had no idea that their accounts have been compromised. Most were from people from various other list serves but one was from a personal friend.

Tossing someone for life for something out of their control might be a little extreme since this is going to happen again with someone else. Isn't there a way to block their account until they can somehow prove the account is back under their control? I think all they need to do is reset their password but I'm not certain.

Regardless, a lifetime banning due to an account getting compromised might cost us some valuable contributors to this list eventually if that is going to be the automatic penalty.

Just my thoughts on the subject. I also want people to know that this is happening much more frequently lately and they should be on the lookout for more messages like this. If you see a message that has a link to something that looks odd, even from someone that you know, verify the validity of the link with them before opening it. It'll save you a lot of problems trying to rid yourself of a virus that may track your login passwords, including financial sites, and having your machine turned into a spamming zombie as well. The easiest thing to do is hit the delete button.

DO NOT attempt to open or follow the URL in the Noyes message. Luckily my
Norton antivirus saw the risk and immediately kept me from looking at the
site.

Noyes has been deleted from MDOsprey for life.
