Last evening I foolishly opened the e-mail from Stephen Noyes before
seeing Norm's warning and went to the URL, thinking (stupidly) that I was going
to see a photo of some bird. I was surprised and angered to see messages
immediately appear that my computer was infected with 17 malwares.
The truth is that the only malware was the virus itself trying to say that
my computer was infected and that I had to purchase a fix for $59.95.
I tried to get rid of it with Spybot and Malwarebytes and going to both
just got more warning messages that were the result of the virus. I did run
both programs. First, Malwarebytes found the infection, but when I tried
to remove it, the program said that I had to re boot the computer. When I
did so, Malwarebytes said that it had not fixed the problem. However no
more of the virus pop up messages have appeared.
I then ran Spybot and it found nothing associated, but the usual Rightmedia
which appears every time I run this program.
The upshot: I have no idea whether my computer is actually completely free
of this nasty virus.
