Hi All,
I went out to Hains this morning to look for the Dick reported by Stephen Jones and Patricia Wood. I met Steve Hersey there and we were both disappointed that the service road area had zero birds, but a lot of maintenance workers and big machinery. Steve had to run, but I stuck around and looked of it in vain for an hour. Then, right as I was about to leave, I checked my phone and saw I had just gotten a text from Wayne Baumgartner telling me the Dick was at Hains NOW! Confused, but happy, I called him and he said he was at Hains too and looking at the bird. It turned out he was on the other side of the fence - no more than 100 yards away from me. I rushed over, but the bird had just left with a group of Juncos. We walked around some more until we relocated the Junco flock and there it was! I'm especially pleased to see this bird as it takes the honors as bird #217 for my DC year list (quite unexpectedly too I might add!)

We saw in with the Juncos both in the cypress trees and in weedy patches close to the ground. My advice for anyone looking for it, would be to check out the Junco flocks and the weedy area both on the service road, but also on the shore of the Potomac where the service road would intersect with the river if it continued west.
