This is a late second- (actually third-) hand posting on behalf of Lynn Scarlett and Steven Courtney. On Saturday 12/3 they saw an immature NORTHERN SHRIKE at Piscataway Park. Lynn's description of the location and sighting is as follows:

"The location was Piscataway Park in Maryland (495 to 210--Indian Head Highway south) to Farmington Road and into the parking lot of the Park. We parked right at the entrance of the park in the parking lot, then began walking down the road that leads to the boardwalk. We saw the shrike atop a clump of shrubs just to the left of that road may 50 yards beyond the parking lot. It then (shrike-like) flew down off its perch toward the meadow. The location should be easy to find--and, if the bird is still there, the bird should be easy to spot."

Family and work prevent me from doing much mid-week chasing, but I'll be interested to see if anyone re-finds this bird.

They also reported impressively large numbers of woodpeckers in the area, including 4 RED-HEADED.
