In case we were not the last people in Maryland to look for this bird, be advised that the LARK SPARROW was waiting for us around 9:30 this (Friday) morning, sitting in a vine-covered holly about 30' south of Pumphouse #2 at Assateague State Park. It flew to another holly closer to the road and perched on top before being displaced by a Northern Mockingbird, but remained nearby and fed in the grass on both sides of the road and bike path for quite awhile. It had moved back into the closer holly and seemed to be taking in the sun before vanishing when an unidentified accipiter sped by.
