Last evening (Dec 18, 2011), wrapping up the day for the Jug Bay CBC at the end of Mallard Lane, I heard a woodcock doing the whole Spring routine, peenting and displaying.  A few minutes later I heard another just peenting.  Tonight there were two again, but just peenting.  This is the first time I've heard the display in December.
