A belated report of a tough county bird in St. Mary's. Marcia Balestri, who isn't on MDOsprey or MD-SMAS, was twitching the Barrow's Goldeneye then looking for the Sedge Wren found an American Tree Sparrow. Not that unusual in some parts of the state but difficult in St. Mary's. If you look at eBird distribution for ATSP, you'll see that once you get south of MD, they're really rare and if you look at the distribution for St. Mary's there are very few reports. Ron Runkles reported one from Greenwell SP on 12/13 with the comment "In the 15 or so years I have been birding Greenwell S.P., this is only the 2nd ATSP. I banded the other one." Anyway, if you're in the area and into county listing and need an ATSP, maybe you'll get lucky!

It was in the shrubs/brambles on the left side of Cornfield Harbor
Rd (as you are going SW) past the corner of Cornfield Harbor Drive.
There were a ton of sparrows in the bramble mostly White-throated Sparrows and Song Sparrows, but I
had a good view of one, just one, American Tree Sparrow.
