I found a 1st winter Iceland Gull at Depot Pond (east) today at lunchtime. The bird was with a small group of Herring and Ring-billed Gulls. It stayed only briefly before moving on. I don't believe it was present when I arrived around noon, and had gone by the time I left 20 minutes later. Also present were 29 Ring-billed Gulls, 19 Herring Gulls, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 Ring-necked Duck, 1 White-throated Sparrow and one Eastern Towhee.

Incidentally, there have been decent numbers (several hundred+) of gulls at Schoolhouse Pond on many days recently, but I've developed such a talent for having them all leave as soon as I arrive outside, I decided to try Depot Pond today. People trying for gulls in Upper Marlboro should check both locations. Good birding,
