I did some birding yesterday before leaving for business travel. I visited Fishing Creek Marsh and relocated the Nashville Warbler found by Bill Hubick and Ed Carslon on the 23rd. I spent quite a while at the site exploring from the incredible boardwalk, but didn't hear or see any rails. I got a brief look at the Nashville once and then refound it and followed it for a little while later on. The second time it was associating with another bird that could have been the Orange-crowned. I got about 4 good looks at one or the other of the birds, and each time I got a good look it was a Nashville, but it is possible/likely that I only got good looks at one of the birds. It was hanging out in the shrubs on the sides of the trail just over the bridge, but was very skulky and only showed itself briefly. Both times I heard it chip before I saw it. It was fairly breezy, and this may have kept the birds down and the rails quiet. I ran into Warren and Lisa Strobel while I was on my way out - it is possible they may have had better luck with the Orange-crowned (or rails).

I also visited Elms Environmental Center and refound the Barrow's Goldeneye found by Tyler Bell. It to the north of access point near the northern set of poles , separate from the main raft of Goldeneye that were straight out. It was fairly far away, but still a good scope look, but it would have been very difficult with only bins. There were 3 Great Cormorants on a buoy to the south and I had great looks at another that was in the water not far away. Also many other Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Long-tailed Ducks and 4 Bonaparte Gulls. A very cool place, but it wasn't trivial to find. I'm glad that Tyler posted detailed directions in his earlier post on 12/23 - I wouldn't have found it without them.

I tried briefly for the American Tree Sparrow off Cornfield Harbor Road - see Tyler's 12/22 post. There were good numbers of Sparrows there, including a Chipping and several Fields. I couldn't pull out the Tree Sparrow, but I ran out of time and had to dash to the airport, so it may still be there.

I stole links to both sites off of Bill Hubick's 12/23 post:
