Today from 1:00 to 3:00 I worked the main ponds of Pickering Creek and
recorded the following:

Canada Geese - 400+

Mallard - 40+

Northern Shoveler - 20

Pintail - 11

Black Duck - 4

Ring-billed Duck - 5

Green-winged Teal - 24+

Pied-billed Grebe - 3

All the above were from the side of Presquile Road.

Then I went to main parking lot and walked trails, starting with the one
that circles the small pond behind the dam. Fortunately, I managed to look
up as I walked that path - and was treated to a view of several Bald Eagles,
and then one Golden Eagle. Later eight Black Vultures passed over and
through the visit about eight Turkey Vultures were also seen.

Others that I saw or heard included:

Song Sparrow - 7

White-throated Sparrow - 2

Junco - 2

Cardinal - 1

 Pileated Woodpecker - 1

Flicker - 1

And when I returned home I had a phone call from Talbot Bird Club member
Tucker Dalton reporting that he and a birder friend had attained excellent
views of a Lincoln's Sparrow at Pickering Creek just a couple of hours ahead
of my visit, and close to the location where I had been looking at the
Golden Eagle.

So Pickering is off to a good start this year. I have reason to believe
several other birders also hit that place today, so there may be more
reports to come.

Tucker Dalton also mentioned having visited Ocean City during the past few
days and was quite pleased with the abundance of Purple Sandpipers and Brant
as well as numerous other species over there.
