Thanks to Richard Donham of the Cecil Bird Club, several of us saw our life
Greater White-fronted Goose at Bombay Hook today. The goose was easily
visible among a small flock of Canada Geese in Bear Swamp Pond.

Huge flocks of Snow Geese were there as well, but otherwise, the numbers of
birds were far below what we usually see at this time of year. But there was
a decent variety of waterfowl: Tundra Swan, Gadwall, Northern Pintail,
Northern Shoveler, Green-winged Teal, Black Duck, Wood Duck, Bufflehead,
Mallards and Hooded Merganser. A side trip to Port Mahon Road gave us a few
Black Scoters. A highlight within Bombay Hook was a sleepy red-phase Screech
Owl sunning itself in the hole of a nest box. We also saw Dunlin, Yellowlegs
(probably Lesser), several Harriers and Bald Eagles, a juvenile "coopshin"
accipiter, a female Kestrel, and several Red-tailed hawks, including a
gorgeous (and vocal) pair of courting birds.
