Third time's the charm. I finally located the Barrow's Goldeneye at the Elms Environmental Education Center in St. Mary's County this afternoon (12:30-2PM). He was pretty much straight out from the overlook, in front of the southern pound nets, keeping pretty close company with one particular female Common Goldeneye. He generally steered clear of the males and almost never spent more than 5 seconds at a time on the surface-a very active diver. There were good numbers of COGOs, a couple dozen Horned Grebe, similar numbers of Long-tailed Duck, a few Red-breasted Merganser-didn't see any scoters or loons.
